Welcome to my blog!
I’ve always heard people say, “Do what you love and you’ll never work”. And I’ve always loved writing. I fell in love with the art of wordcrafting young. By the end of elementary school I was consuming book after book. But it took me longer to make the jump from reading other people’s work to writing stories of my own. I wrote poetry on my Xanga and fanfiction – oh so much fanfiction, but I didn’t consider myself very good and I hid my writing from others. As a sophomore in high school one of my friends asked me to do National Novel Writing Month with her. I thought, “Wow, that’s crazy. 50,000 words in a month? Why not?” And so I did my first year of NaNoWriMo. And I LOVED it.
I didn’t win that first year, but I did discover that I could write and that it was something I might want to do for the rest of my life. But it was something I still didn’t believe I could do. Senior year of high school rolled around and I told my parents I wanted to be an English major in college. They told me if I wanted to be broke and homeless I could could start right now. Ouch. So I went to college and got my degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. And I found that I loved that too. I loved setting up brand campaigns and doing social media, and the idea that it wasn’t just about selling things to people but about building relationships with your customers. I had a great college experience. I learned a lot, made new friends, expanded my interests. I went abroad to study and added the hobby of cooking and food photography to my life.
And then, I graduated.
For years I had been thinking to myself, “I wish there was a way for me to write for a living”. I admired bloggers like LadyIronChef who seemed to be able to make a living doing what they loved. I had tried to start a blog a few times before but gave up. I was too shy. I didn’t know how much of my life I wanted to share. It was too much of a time commitment. But then I realized, if I wanted to have my dream career I wasn’t going to get it if I didn’t even try. And so here I am – trying.
This blog is a record of my odd hobbies and interests- writing, food, travel, DIY, and more. I hope to fill up the pages with recipes and reviews, snippets of my life. But by no means does that mean this blog is me just pouring things out into the world wide web. It’s a conversation and I hope to hear from you too!
