My 2015 NaNo Attack Plan

So National Novel Writing Month is literally a couple days away, and I am so totally unprepared. If you aren’t familiar with National Novel Writing Month it’s an event in which you commit to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. Yes, a month. I know it sounds crazy. But NaNoWriMo has taught me so much about writing and about myself and what I can do if I put my mind to it. I’ve been doing this event for the last 7 years. But this time, I’m not ready. First of all, I’m halfway around the world. I’ll be starting a day behind because my first day will be spent on an 18 hour flight. I’ve been vacationing so plotting has been the last thing on my mind.

Originally, I wanted to start the third part of my fantasy trilogy which would be titled Black as Night. But I find myself way behind on the editing of Book 1: White as Snow. So this year I’m going to commit to rewriting Book 1. “But that’s cheating!”, you might say. Well, honestly editing a book is way worse than writing it. I have to rewrite more than half the novel. It’s so much more fun to start fresh with a new perspective and new characters, letting your imagination roam free. But this year I finally have to buckle down and finish this sucker. It’s been four years in the making and that is way too long.

So excuse me as I go cry in my little corner anticipating a month of writing frantically and job apps…
