My Whole 30 Journey: Day 5 Breaking Out

Hello lovelies! It’s been five days since I started Whole 30 so I’m 1/6th of the way through! I’ve heard that the first week is the hardest, but we’ll see.

Whole 30 has kind of been hard on my body. I know that week 1 is essentially the detox week as my body goes through withdrawals from my various sugar and cream addictions. One of the biggest things for me is that my skin keeps breaking out! And in addition, I’ve been trying to drink more water but for some strange reason I always feel dehydrated. I can’t tell if it’s a healthy reaction or not. On the plus side, I’m not unusually tired as some people have complained of their first weeks and I can definitely tell that I’ve lost some weight. I’ve been totaling my calories at the end of the day though, just to keep track, and I realize that I’ve accidentally been eating around 1000 calories a day. I’ve been trying to eat a little more to see if that makes a difference or not, but I haven’t been feeling terribly hungry so I might stick to what I’ve been doing.

The cravings haven’t been too awful. But I have been dreaming about eating ramen and ice cream and lots of other things I’m not allowed to eat. I’m trying to focus on the things I can eat and trying to enjoy those. One of my coworkers saw me in the break room this week heating up my food and he suggested I cry into it and maybe it would be a good substitute for soy sauce. I thought that was pretty funny.

My every other day cooking schedule has turned into daily cooking. I hadn’t realized how much I missed cooking. But eating almost exclusively the food that I cook is pretty boring as well. Some of the dishes I’ve cooked have been really good, others not so much as I begin experimenting with new flavors and textures. I really liked the mango chicken salad I had on Monday and the Shrimp and cauliflower rice I had on Wednesday. Yesterday I had Pork Belly and Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes and I had the leftovers today as well. That’s what I get for buying two pounds of pork belly at the supermarket. Next week I plan to start with a beef soup or stew and switch out the bok choy and spinach I’ve been eating for greens with some sugar snap peas and maybe asparagus.

Have a great weekend!

  1. So glad to hear of your success so far. I will be checking back to see how you are doing. I have read the diet and rules and think I have a start date after we return from a short vacation next week. I will let you know if I go forward. Keep us posted on your progress!
