The Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino has had so much hype around it in the past week and may be one of the most anticipated Frappuccinos of all time. And it’s only available for about a week… and if you believe.
The unicorn trend has been going around for awhile now, like tons of other 90s kickbacks. Everything from unicorn cakes to nails has been showing up on Instagram. And now Starbucks is trying their hand at it and honestly succeeding at the social media game.
So what is this magical new purple, pink explosion of a drink made of anyway?
The Unicorn Frappuccino is at it’s base a mango creme Frappuccino (click here to go to my previous review of that) but with layered a sour blue powder blended with white chocolate mocha sauce and classic syrup. The effect is supposed to be a sweet and sour mix that changes when you mix it. And of course, the drink is visually gorgeous – purple, pink, and blue swirls topped with whipped cream and even more of the sour pink and blue powder.
In my opinion, it’s pretty but not worth the hype. The first couple of sips were pleasant, tasting like a mango Frappuccino but a little more sour. However, once the drink started to melt a little, it became overly sour. For the increased price, I don’t think the drink is worth it.
But if you’re thinking of trying this drink yourself you better hurry. This drink will only be around until Sunday, April 23 – or until they run out of pink and blue powder.
